Bangladesh has made notable progress in expanding digital financial services and narrowing the financial gender gap. Yet for many women and girls, particularly in rural and low-income communities, access to digital tools does not automatically translate into financial agency. Drawing on evidence from the Technology Enabled Girl Ambassadors (TEGA) initiative, this blog explores how social norms, limited device ownership, and restricted decision-making power continue to shape women’s engagement with digital financial services. It also highlights the opportunities that digital finance can create for savings, entrepreneurship, and economic resilience, while outlining key policy priorities for advancing gender-responsive digital inclusion.
